About Paul Schmidt

I am a self taught abstract painter based in St. Louis.

I work in acrylic, using geometry, color, repeated symbols, and organic forms. The practice developed alongside a full time career and without formal art training.

I grew up in Wisconsin and graduated from Marquette University. After college, I entered the army where I served as an Infantry officer. My service included deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.

The paintings explore order, interruption, vision, decline, and the way systems change under pressure.

The work is serious. I try not to sound too serious while talking about it.
